Please be advised, there will be NO SENIOR CLUB on Saturday 10th August 2024.
All other clubs remain unaffected, and we will re-open on Monday 12th August at 08:30 for Holiday Club. Our next Senior Club will be on Tuesday 13th August from 18:30.
A note from Caroline, our CEO:
Summer is always an especially busy time at CYZ, with action packed Holiday Clubs and trips to new places joining our regular mentoring sessions and evening Youth Clubs. It means for 12 hours a day, we offer somewhere safe to go, trusted adults to talk to and lots of opportunities and experiences to take part in for hundreds of children and young people. It’s what we do best, and we love it.
This summer, alongside the fun and laughter of our holiday programme, we have been quietly but robustly holding space. Space for connection, safety, belonging, and solidarity. We have done this whilst keeping in mind the community of Southport, as they navigate their pain and grief. And we have done this whilst condemning the racism and hate fueled violence spreading across the country.
Within this space, our team and young people have dialed up their care, kindness, love and unity. We have been looking out for one another – emotionally with calls, check in’s and time to talk, and practically, with food, buddy systems, and co-ordinating safe travel plans to get young people and team members to and from CYZ safely. The fear and distress, especially for those from within communities being targeted, is real. Together, we have and will continue to reject racism and hate towards any members of our community. We know this is especially important right now, but in the long term too.
Looking ahead, we have decided to close CYZ early today (Saturday 10th August 2024), meaning we will finish at 3:30pm (rather than 9pm). This decision hasn’t been taken lightly but in discussion with colleagues, and given CYZ falls within the dispersal area issued by Cumbria Police, we feel this is important for everyone’s wellbeing and safety. We will reopen at 8.30am on Monday for the second half of our summer programme, and we can’t wait to welcome all those who are joining us for more fun and friendship.
With deep care and solidarity,
Caroline
