Dan’s professional career has seen him working with children and young people from the beginning. Starting with coaching football as a teenage Saturday job, Dan developed his youth work skills and qualifications to build a fruitful career in Outdoor Education. As an Outdoor Practitioner he primarily worked with 11-18 year olds on personal development programmes with a focus on self-belief, teamwork and leadership and delivered them in some of the most challenging environments the UK has to offer. In 2020 with Outdoor Education providers closed, due to COVID-19, he pivoted to a career in Project Management and now works for Cumberland Council’s Special Educational Needs and Disabilities department. This role sees him delivering change projects to implement government policy and improve strategic outcomes for children and young people across the county.
He has joined Carlisle Youth Zone as their first Young Trustee and with his background across the youth sector he brings expertise, lived experience and passion to the Board.
